Commentary on the Toponym:	Miller, Itineraria, Sp. 296: Ad Mensulas, Mensulis (Ra); j. Staz. Monte Amiata, beim Einfluß des Flusses Ente in den Orcia. In der Umgebung wird Zinnober und Quecksilber gewonnen. 18. Datierung (Barrington): Ad Mensulas – Late Antique (ItMiller 296) RE: Ad Mensulas: Station an der Straße Siena Chiusi in Etrurien: Tab. Peut. und Geogr. Rav. IV 36. Gamurrini (Not. d. scav. 1898, 273) vermerkt zu dieser Straße, dass manche die hierher gehörige Station ad M. 2 mp unterhalb Montalcino nach Misuglio oder Matrichese setzten, wo im 8. Jahrhundert eine Kirche Sancta Mater ecclesia ad Mensulas stand. Damit wäre in der Tat die Station hinreichend lokalisiert. Vgl. C. Müller in Ptol. III 1,43 p. 349, der M. = j. Stazione della strada Chiusi-Siena, a XVIII mp. da Manliana e XVI mp. da Umbro Fl. Se la ricostruzione stradale qui proposta è esatta (VIA CASSJA), è da ubicarsi alla Pieve di Sinalunga (che conserva l`appellativo ad Mensulas, anche in altre località toscane) dove altrimenti si colloca la stazione Ad Gr(a)ecos (Gamurrini e altri). Dalla Pieve di Sinalunga a Umbro FI., al passaggio dell`Ombrone, sono XVI mp., mentre da Manliana (Torrita) sole III o IIII mp. Le due distanze di XVIII e XVI miglia si potrebbero riferire ad una strada da Chiusi-Siena passante per Asciano, non in Tab. Peut. (Maroni). Dalla zona anche estesi resti di costruzioni, fistule plumbee per impianti termali, tombe. b. L`iscrizione CIL XI 2594 di un Umbricius sepolto in solo suo fa pensare ad un fundus Umbricianus (di Umbricii anche altre iscrizioni: CIL XI 1504 e 7231). c. Tab. Peut. IV, 4, XVIII; Rav.
