Der Ort heißt Laitos in den ital. Portulanen (s. Bryer/Winfield 1985, 154; dort weitere mittelalterliche und moderne Namen und Graphien).

Kastell an der südl. Schwarzmeerküste am gleichnamigen Fluss (Plin. nat. 6,11), 90 Stadien (knapp 17 km) von Argyria, 100 (18,5 km) bis Koralla.
Im 7. Jh. v. Chr. als griech. Festungskolonie gegründet; die Gegend bot reichlich Schiffsbauholz und Minen (Kaymakçı 2021).

Heute allgemein 1 km östl. von Görele, ehem. Eleve/Eleghu lokaisiert (ältere Lokalisierungstheorien s. Ruge, RE 2485f und Olshausen/Biller 1984, 157f).

Meilenangabe nach Zepyrium: XI (11);
dazwischen ist offenbar ein Ort ausgefallen (s. Ruge, RE 2486), wie ItMiller 647 vermutet, das bei Arr. peripl. 16,4 dazwischen aufgeführte Tripolis.
