Commentary on the Toponym:	[PK: Distanzangabe nach Pisis ist vorhanden, der Verbindungsstrich fehlt jedoch]. Plin colonia Luca (3,50) a mari recedens Kommentar (Talbert): -> stretch to Pisis: The linework for this stretch is not marked. The copyist may have failed to draw this stretch because he could hardly avoid running through the distance figure VIIII and possibly also the name Pisis. The figure in particular is angled to straddle linework, but not divided to allow its passage. Miller, Itineraria, Sp. 288f.: Luca, it. (St, Pt, Cic, Liv, Pl, It, Ra, Iss), Lucca (Gu), Lucensis spatharia (ND); am Fuß des Apennins und am Fluß Ausus, Endpunkt der Via Clodia (It), früher eine ligurische Stadt, seit Aug. aber zu Etrurien gehörig, seit 178 v. Chr. col. mit den Rechten eines municipium (Cic, Liv, Pl, Vell); Bischofssitz; j. Lucca mit einem alten Amphitheater. Iss: CIL XI 1525-1540. Abzweigung nach Pisa, Strecke 46. Datierung (Barrington): Luca – Hellenistic/Roman/Late Antique (EA Lucca 30-35) DNP: Luca Stadt an einem fossilen (d.h. heute nahezu kein Wasser mehr führenden) Arm des Auser (h. Serchio), der in ant. Zeit bei Pisa in den Arno mündete, h. Lucca; letzte colonia latin. Rechts, 180 v.Chr. von Rom auf dem Gebiet der Pisani gegr. (Liv. 40,43,1); seit 89 v.Chr. municipium der tribus Fabia. Wichtiger Straßenknotenpunkt (Itin. Anton. 283ff.; Tab. Peut. 4,1); 56 v.Chr. wurde in L. das sog. Triumvirat zw. Caesar, Pompeius und Crassus erneuert (Plut. Pompeius 51; Plut. Caesar 21; Plut. Crassus 14; Suet. Iul. 24,1). Unter Augustus colonia der 7. Region (Etruria; Plin. nat. 3,50; Ptol. 3,1,47). Seit Diocletianus wurden hier die Schwerter für das Heer hergestellt. Mil. Stützpunkt im Gotenkrieg. Der Grundriß der colonia in einer rechtwinkligen Maueranlage ist erh.; cardo und decumanus maximus kreuzen sich auf dem Forum (h. Piazza di San Michele in Foro). Im Norden befinden sich Reste des Theaters (Santa Maria di Corte) und des Amphitheaters (Piazza del Mercato).
