Commentary on the Toponym:	Miller, Itineraria, Sp. 907: Maxula, it. (Ra), Maxila (Ra), Prates (It), Maxula colonia (Pl), Μάξουλα (Pt), am Meere, nicht weit vom rechten Ufer des Catada (Pt), zu unterscheiden von dem nördlich gelegenen Maxula παλαιά (Pt); Bischöfe (episcopi Maxulitani) werden öfters genannt (Morcelli, Africa christ. I p. 220); j. Rades. Iss: CIL VIII 12458-12461. 7, bis Carthagine 18 (It). Der Verbindungsstrich fehlt hier bis Carthagine. Die Zahl ist so eingezeichnet, als ob sie auf die Strecke Utica - Maxula zu rechnen wäre, wobei allerdings außerdem die Zahl 20 zwischen Utica - Maxula steht; sie ist für die Strecke Thuni - Maxula in Anspruch zu nehmen. [1. 66-68]. Der Ort war pun. beeinflußt [2. 292-295]. Bei Plinius (nat. 5,24) und in Inschr.
