Commentary on the Toponym:	Kommentar (Talbert): The placement of this name and its associated stretch clearly illustrates the difficulty which the mapmaker creates when he presents a route "vertically". At first glance, users may regard Ad Rotas as a deadend with two routes leading from it. In fact it is (as the mapmaker intends it to be) simply a station on the route from Adflexvm to Esernie (note that the map chooses to ignore Venafrum, despite its greater importance; BAtlas 44 F3). Was ist mit Venafrum? Ist das der fehlende Ort bzw. die Kreuzung zwischen Ad Flexum - Ad Rotas - Teano Scedicino? Miller, Itineraria, Sp. 371: Ad Rotas, Rotas (Ra), Ratam (Gu); j. Monte Roduni. Iss: CIL X 4846. 4899. 4914. 4962. 5030. Bei S. Maria dell`Oliveto 1 Meilenstein 106 von Rom (CIL IX 5976). Datierung (Barrington): Ad Rotas/ Rotae – Hellenistic/Roman/Late Antique (Hakkert, Lex.2) RE: Rotae (ad Rotas), als Station an der Straße zwischen Aesernia und Venafrum in der Tab. Peut. und im Geogr. Rav. IV 34 genannt; am Volturnus gelegen rechnet es (wohl seit Augustus) wie Venafrum zu Campanien, vorher zu Samnium; heute M. Roduni. Bei ad Rotas auf dem linken Volturnusufer stand der 110. Meilenstein (von Rom aus), CIL IX p. 589. Nissen Ital. Landesk. II 797, 8. 7 mp. war es von Isernia 6 mp von Venafrum entfernt; die Straße ging kurz vor R. auf das rechte Volturnusufer, O. Cuntz. Topogr. Stud., Österr. Jahresh. 1899 d. arch. Inst. P. 100.
