Datierung (Barrington): Vitricium – Roman/Late Antique (TIR Mediolanum 145) RE: Vitricium, Stadt der Salasser, zwischen Aosta und Ivrea gelegen, heute Verrez (vgl. Nissen It. Ldk. II 170. Miller Itin. Rom. 224). Die Namensform ist unterschiedlich überliefert: Die Tab. Peut. bietet Utricium, It. Anton. 345,2. 347,5. 351,2; Vitricium, Geogr. Rav. IV 30 Bitricium; im Mittelalter hieß der Ort Verecium (Nissen a.O. 170,2), woraus der heutige Name entstanden ist. Die Formen V. und Utricium lassen sich miteinander verbinden, wenn man annimmt, daß in keltischer Aussprache das U wie ü geklungen haben mag; zu vergleichen ist das Nebeneinander für den namen des im Ager Gallicus gelegenen Flusses Utens-Vites (s. d.
