Note that the route linework top left of Aug D[ - ? - ]m does not quite touch the symbol, although it was no doubt intended to.

Augusteische Gründung am Berührungspunkt der Becken von Loire, Saône und Rhône, h. Autun. Ersatz für Bibracte als Hauptort der Haedui, wurde A. zu einem regen Romanisierungszentrum. Gezeichnet durch Aufstände im 1.Jh. n.Chr. (Tac. ann. 3,43), war A. bis gegen Ende des 3.Jh. durch hohen Wohlstand ausgezeichnet (vgl. arch. Funde). Trotz des Niedergangs nach der Kapitulation vor Victorinus (269 n.Chr.) bewahrte A. dank seiner Schulen seinen Ruf als kulturelles Zentrum.
