Kommentar zum Toponym:

Kommentar (Talbert):
Seemingly, the copyist realized too late that the name should have only one "p". He then attempted to remove the first of the two, almost erasing the preceding "i" as he did so. All this can only have occurred after the entire name and its distance figure had been written, because there is no attempt to close up the gap created by removal of the first "p".

Miller, Itineraria, Sp. 404:
Centurippa, Centurica (Gu), Centuripa (It), Centuripae (Pl, Pt, Sil), Centuripinum (Ml), Κεντόριπα (Thuc etc.); alte Stadt der Siculi am Fuß des Ätna, unter den Römern mit bedeutendem Getreidehandel – "locupletissima" (Cic); j. Centuripe oder Centorbi. Alte Stadtmauer sehr ausgedehnt. Viele Steinfunde. Iss. CIL X 7004-7012. 8053 129. 173. 8056 275. 391. 594. CIG 5742-5742b. 12, it. (It).
