| Kommentar zum Toponym: |
Nach Tomaschek ist Pisauta am ehesten identisch mit Byzantion an der indischen Westküste (vgl. PME 53: Βυζάντιον; Ptol. 7, 1, 7: Βυζαντεῖον; Steph. Byz. s.v. Βυζαντεῖον). Das Toponym spiegelt wohl einen entstellten einheimischen Ortsnamen wider, ist aber Cohen zufolge (wie Warmington annimmt) nicht als Nachweis für die Präsenz mittelmeerischer Händler an diese Hafenplatz zu werten. |
