In der Literatur erstmals belegt bei Arrian (ca. 131 n. Chr.). Die Namensform ist eher spät.

Lag in Wirklichkeit östl. von 9A3 Philocalia an der Südküste des Schwarzen Meeres, an der aber auf der TP kein Platz mehr war.

“Cordile” ist die nur hier belegte iotazistische (also eher späte) Form von Kordyle/Chordyle.

Namensbedeutung: Nach Meinung Zgusta 1984, 286 von κόρδυλος = Eidechse (bzw. Teichlurch, Triton palustris lt. Liddel/Scott/Jones), aber wohl eher von (σ)κορδύλη = Jungthunfisch, da der Pontos bekannt war für seinen Reichtum an Thunfischen, die dort laichten (so auch Bryer/Winfield 1985, 153)

Hafen an der Küste des Schwarzen Meeres westlich von Trapezunt, die erste Landestelle nach Umrundung des Heiligen Berges. Auf einer Landzunge mit einem natürlich geschützten Hafen im Süden, im Windschatten des Karadağ-Gebirges. Da es keine Spuren einer Straße ins Landesinnere sichtbar sind und es keine bekannten Landwirtschaftsprodukte oder Bodenschätze gab, könnte der Zweck seiner Existenz in seiner Funktion als Hafen von Trapezunt bei stürmischem Wetter gelegen haben (s. Bryer/Winfield 1985, 10; 156).
Wohl eine griech. Kolonie des 7. Jh.s v. Chr. (s. Kaymakçi 2021, 95). Vom spätantiken Anon. Peripl. Pont. Eux. 36 als chorion (Örtchen oder Kastell) bezeichnet.
Ab 1362 befand sich dort das Kloster St. Phokas; wichtige Festung in mittelbyz. Zeit (s. (s. Bryer/Winfield 1985, 156; 158)

Lokalisierung bei Akçakale aufgrund der Distanzangaben in den antiken Quellen (s. o.) (s. Ruge, RE 1386).
